George Evans, 88, was born on Jan. 22, 1927, to the late William Henry and Ollie Mae Brown Evans. He entered his heavenly home on Aug. 17, 2015. What a joyful reunion there must have been in Heaven! Having accepted Christ at an early age, he was a steadfast and faithful servant, working tirelessly in the First Baptist Church's Bread Ministry, as well as, serving on the Usher and Deacon Boards.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his beloved wife of 61 years, Margaret "Jane" Moore Evans; sister, Gertrude "Tiddle" Coles; brothers, Jay B. and Albert Evans, Sr.

Upon graduating from Garnet High School, he entered the U.S. Army Air Corp as a diesel mechanic. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a Post Master.

George leaves to mourn his children, Deborrah (Leonard) Dorcas, Roderick "Doc," Terrell (Donna), and Rosalynn Evans. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy.

His surviving siblings are, William of Washington, D.C., Anna Gilmer and Robert (Sandra) Evans of Dunbar, Margaret (Milon) Sawyers of Columbus, Ohio; and a host of family and friends.

The family would like to express our appreciation to the Home Health Care Staff for the excellent care given to our loved one, as well as, the visits, phone calls, cards, and prayers from family and friends.

A celebration of his life will be noon Mon. Aug. 24, at First Baptist Church of Charleston. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service.

Preston Funeral Home, Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
