Thomas Carolin Clay, died July 17, 2015, at 3:30 a.m. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Louise Roberts Clay, July 17, 1988; and by his second wife, Mildred R. Masi Clay, March 6, 2002.
He is survived by sons, David Telford Clay and wife, Elizabeth Anne, Thomas C. Clay, III and wife, Brenda, Robert M. Clay and wife, Carol; and daughter, Ann Stillwell Clay Kelly; step-daughter, Peggy Masi; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Ordained to the ministry July 22, 1945, he served pastorates in Buchanan and Glasgow, Virginia; South Charleston, W.Va.; Winchester, Kentucky; Weslaco, Texas; and Madison Heights, Va. Following retirement in January 1982, he served as Interim Pastor at West End Presbyterian Church, Roanoke, Va. until June 1982, at which time he became Chaplain at Richfield Retirement Community, Salem, Va., a post he held until July 20, 2014.
He was a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College, Va. in the class of 1943 and of Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Va. in the class of 1945.
A memorial service will be held in the Jane Morgan Harris Chapel, Richfield Retirement Community, 3615 W. Main Street, Salem, Va. 24153 on Sunday, July 26, at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jane Morgan Harris Chapel.
