Roundup: Herd's D'Antoni signs 6-9 forward

Marshall men's basketball coach Dan D'Antoni announced Friday the signing of Ajdin Penava from Bosnia and Herzegovina to round out his 2015-16 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-9 forward most recently played with the Turkish Airlines Euroleague's U18 Spars Sarajevo team, where he averaged 2.3 points and 2.7 rebounds over seven games with 66.7 percent shooting from the field.

YOUTH BASEBALL: Huntington Little League will host the state tournaments for 10-11 baseball and 11-12 softball at Jerry Straub Stadium and Field Sentry Bank Field through Wednesday.

District 3 champion Charleston Mountaineer will meet the winner of Barboursville vs. Beckley at noon today on Field 1. Another round of games will take place Sunday before the quarterfinals Monday. The championships are set for 6 p.m. Wednesday.

SWIMMING: The Huntington Y Charleston Aquatic Team has entered 51 swimmers in the West Virginia Invitational Long Course championships through Sunday at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center in Christiansburg, Virginia.

HYCAT director and coach Greg Olson expects 135 competitors to participate in the meet and it will be the last major competition for the majority of the HYCAT swimmers. The HYCAT swimming program will be going for its 29th consecutive State Long Course team title and 71st overall state championship.

MU SOFTBALL: Marshall sophomore Elicia D'Orazio will play for Puerto Rico in the Pan Am games in Ajax, Canada starting Sunday with a match against the United States. D'Orazio and the Puerto Rico team are coming off a bronze medal in the World Cup of Softball in Irvine, California.

YOUTH FOOTBALL: The Charleston Midwestern Youth Football Team will hold signups for players and cheerleaders ages 5-12 today at the Martin Luther King Center on Donnally Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Practice starts at 6 p.m. Monday at Laidley Field for one week.
