The Tom Hopper Foundation donated $4,500 this week to the Kanawha-Charleston Soccer Foundation.
The inaugural Tom Hopper 5K Run/Walk took place in May, with all the proceeds benefiting the Kanawha-Charleston Soccer Foundation to help with the upkeep of the Trace Fork Soccer Complex. The foundation is seeking donations to help with about $1.2 million it owes on a loan due in September 2016, or BB&T bank will foreclose on the Trace Fork field.
Tom Hopper, who became the head boys soccer coach at George Washington in 2000, guided the Patriots to five state tournament berths and three Class AAA championships from 2007-13. Hopper died last fall after a short battle with cancer.
