Right-to-work is harmful to West Virginia workers and citizens, since it would undermine the collective power workers gain by joining a union and paying their fair share of dues.
Union power is necessary to protect and advance workers' just interests for fair treatment, decent wages, adequate benefits and decent working conditions.
As a person who has worked over 20 years in West Virginia's public schools and WVU - essentially in a RTW public employment environment - I am very familiar with low wages, weak pension plans, diminishing health care benefits and arrogant, self-serving management. Bosses all too often act arbitrarily and capriciously since there is no countervailing force - a strong union - to protect workers from management's mistakes.
