Marshall junior defensive back Corey Tindal said he is going to test the professional waters.

Tindal, a former Conference USA all-freshman team member that earned honorable mention all-C-USA for three straight seasons, announced on his Twitter feed Monday afternoon that he was going to declare for the NFL draft.

He tweeted prior to Saturday's St. Petersburg Bowl win over Connecticut that the game would be the "last one for me." He returned to the social media site Monday afternoon to clarify his future plans.

"Just to clear the air... I'm not taking a graduate transfer," he wrote. "I will be entering the 2k16 draft... Once again thank you #HerdNation."

The deadline for college underclassmen to declare their eligibility for the 2016 NFL draft is Monday, Jan. 18.

After sitting his first year at Marshall as an academic non-qualifier, Tindal quickly became an important part of the Thundering Herd defense, first as a nickel back and then as a corner. He posted career highs in interceptions (two), pass breakups (15) and sacks (three) in 2015, helping the Herd to finish 25th in the Football Bowl Subdivision in passing yards allowed (191.9 per game) and 12th in scoring defense (17.8 points allowed per game).

If Tindal follows through on his plans to enter the draft, he will finish his Marshall career with 198 total tackles, 11 for a loss, three interceptions, five sacks and 34 pass breakups.
