Mrs. Ann Dickerson Dodd, 86, of Charleston, passed away Sat. Sept. 26, 2015, at Hubbard Hospice House, following a long illness.
Ann was born on August 1, 1929, in Nallen, a daughter of the late Forest L. Dickerson, Sr. and Nora Ethel White Dickerson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ernest C. Dodd; brothers, Bernard Dickerson, Daniel Dickerson, and Forest L. Dickerson, Jr.; and a sister, Margaret Dickerson Crist.
She is survived by her son, James "Butch" Dodd; and daughter-in-law, Susan Raher Dodd of Richmond, Va.; a brother, William Dickerson of Fla.; and a sister, Barbara Dickerson Gray of Charleston. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews and hundreds of friends.
Ann was a passionate follower of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (the Mormon Church) for over 50 years. Sister Dodd was a member of the Relief Society and taught younger children in Sunday School.
Ann was also an award winning beautician, having represented Clairol Hair Products on stage at the New York City World's Fair in 1964. She was the proprietor of Ann's Beauty Shop on Central Avenue in Charleston for 35 years.
The family will receive friends on from 6 to 8 p.m. Mon. evening, Sept. 28, at the Bartlett-Burdette-Cox Funeral Home, 513 Tennessee Avenue in Charleston. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tues. Sept. 29, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, on Valley Brook Drive beside Flinn Elementary School and within a half mile of Sissonville High School off of Sissonville Drive/Route 21 between North Charleston and Exit 114 of I-77, with Elder Harold E. Cole officiating. Committal service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. at Restlawn Memory Gardens in Victor, WV, about two miles east of Ansted off of Route 60.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.
