Charles "Sam" Bumpus

Charles Samuel "Sam" Bumpus, 74, of Charleston, passed away Fri. Aug. 28, 2015, at CAMC Memorial Hospital, following a short illness. Sam was born October 7, 1940, in Kanawha County, a son of the late Ira and Eunice Melton Bumpus.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Thomas Bumpus; and brother, Bob Bumpus.

Sam was a born again Christian who's life revolved around his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Goldtown Community Church. He proudly served in the United States Army and later retired from the Special Delivery division of the United States Post Office. Sam also shared many laughs and memories with his friends at the Bigley Avenue Hardee's.

He is survived by his three children, Chuck Bumpus (Mitzi) of Goldtown, Cindy Parsons (Tim) of Kenna, and Kim Linville (Greg) of Fountain Inn, S.C.; brother, Bill Bumpus (Marsha) of Dunbar; sister, Patty Morton (Jim) of Charleston; grandchildren, Kayla Parsons, Bryana Linville, Brittany White (Chris), Jacob Parsons, Tiara Parsons, Tyler Linville, Jared Bumpus, and Jahlea Bumpus; and great-grandchildren, Elijah Parsons, Crosby White, and Atarah Parsons. He is also survived by a special friend, Barbara Moss.

Funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Sun. August 30, at the Goldtown Community Church with Pastors Al Mendez, Aaron Jones, and Robbie Bumpus officiating. Friends may call on the family from 2 p.m until the time of service at the church. Burial with Military Rites by American Legion Post 61, Clendenin will be 2 p.m. Mon. August 31, at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Pocatalico.
