James W. Winter, Sr.

Mr. James Walter Winter, Sr., 73, of Poca, formerly of Nitro, went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 15, 2015 at home.

Mr. Winter was a member of Nitro Church of Christ and an Army veteran. He was a graduate of Nitro High School, where he was the star football player. He was a former employee of Viscose and a security guard for the Eye and Ear Clinic.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Emmitt and Ruby Winter, and sisters, Reba, Laura and Mary.

Mr. Winter is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mrs. Lucille Winter; children, Debbie Murn, Roxanne Jividen, Christy Burton, Helen Paquette, Sharon Zitzelberger, Julie Adams, Jim Winter, Jr. and Kerry Dawn Boggess; brothers, Hershel, Charles, Danny, Carl and John Winter; sisters, Dorothy Hood, Gladys Gabritsch, Brenda Winter and Shirley White; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Hospice, neighbors, family and friends for all of the love and support during this difficult time.

A tribute to the life of Mr. James W. Winter, Sr. will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Craig Culbertson officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W., Charleston, WV 25387, or the Alzheimer's Association, 1601 2nd Ave., Charleston, WV 25387.
