WHEELING, W.Va. - The West Virginia Municipal League has named the mayor of Wheeling as its mayor of the year.
The league made the announcement at its annual conference. Andy McKenzie is the first Wheeling mayor to be honored since the program began in 1988.
McKenzie was first elected in 2008 and won a second term in 2012.
While in office, McKenzie has been credited with addressing vacant structures, sales tax incentives and reducing business taxes.
In addition to serving as Mayor, McKenzie is employed as a financial adviser.
