Although many students expect days of swimming, sunshine and cookouts during summer break, some rain is bound to fall.
Although indoor pools are a good option for rainy days, there's always another one - classic video games.
While Super Mario Bros. and Sonic the Hedgehog may be collecting dust in many basements, these games along with several others are great options to relive childhood memories as well as kick back and relax when clouds are looking gray.
The list below contains five of the best pixelated classics to enjoy playing on a parent's outdated video game console.
* The Legend of Zelda - Being a classic Nintendo fan-favorite, "The Legend of Zelda" follows the story of a young boy named Link on his journey to save Princess Zelda in the kingdom of Hyrule.
This game was a best-seller on the Nintendo Entertainment System, NES, and was first released in Japan long before Nintendo brought this game to the shelves of North America.
Although the franchise may be old, Nintendo is still earning profits from the Legend of Zelda franchise. One of their most recent titles was a remake of the game "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask" which was released on April 27, 2000.
* Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters - Being yet another Nintendo game, "Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters" is a game following the story of a young boy (sound familiar?) named Pit, who, with angel wings, flies around slaying monsters.
This game was released on Nov. 5, 1991, for the Nintendo Gameboy, a mobile gaming console. This game is adventurous and fun for just about everyone.
* Metroid - Yet another Nintendo game, "Metroid" as well as "The Legend of Zelda" (seen earlier in the list) are classic Nintendo adventure games.
"Metroid" takes place in a sci-fi setting following the story of a bounty hunter named Samus Aran.
Samus, all by herself, must fight and destroy an evil alien race of brain-eating monsters known as Metroids. This game was released on August 7, 1987 for the NES, and eventually on several other consoles.
* Sonic The Hedgehog - Next up on our list is a game that features a character who should really be in a "Fast and Furious" movie. In Sega's "Sonic The Hedgehog," you play as an incredibly fast blue hedgehog as he tries to defeat enemies while running at light-speed. This game was released on June 23, 1991 for the Sega Genesis console.
* Donkey Kong Country - Ever heard of that old game where an insane ape throws barrels? This is ... well, an evolved version of that.
"Donkey Kong Country" is a platform game similar to Nintendo's "Super Mario Bros.," but instead features a giant monkey trying to save the jungle. This game was released on Nov. 21, 1994.
