John Leroy Jividen, 86, of Sugar Hill, Ga., passed away at home on Thursday February 11, 2016. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Leroy and Mamie Jividen. In 1947, he graduated from South High School in Columbus, Ohio, where he played basketball and baseball. He enlisted into the US Navy in 1947 where he proudly served his country for 20 years before retiring from military service. He married his beloved wife, Lucille Reba Johnson on June 18, 1951. He continued working in public service with the Federal Maritime Commission as the Director of Data Processing until his permanent retirement in March of 1984.
John was a sports lover and an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a volunteer coach of youth baseball and basketball for over 30 years in Springfield, Va., touching many lives of the players he coached. He was also a volunteer coach for the American Legion Post 176 baseball team for many years.
He dearly loved his family and friends and will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Mamie Jividen; and his sister, Donna Rhodes.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Lucille; two daughters, Yvonne Bowling of Sugar Hill, Ga. and Janet (Scott) Miller of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sons, John (Lucy) Jividen of Charleston and Jeff (Laura) Jividen of Duluth, Ga.; five grandchildren, Jennifer Bowling, Joshua (and Shelly) Bowling, Matthew Miller, Tyler Jividen and Zachary Jividen; great-grandchildren, Micayla Starnes, Cal Bowling and Camille Simpson; and his sister, Betty Royster.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. February 14, at Wages and Sons Gwinnett Chapel, 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy., Lawrenceville, GA, 770-277-4550. An additional service will be held in Virginia when he is laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery details to follow at a later date.
