Dale Elswick, 76, of Fraziers Bottom, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016 at Cabell Huntington Hospital after a short illness.
Born Nov. 15, 1939 in Queen Shoals, he was a son of the late William and Lillie Elswick.
Dale retired in 1980 as a sergeant major in the United States Army with 22 years of service. He was an exemplary soldier, and dedicated himself to serving with distinction and honor. After completing his career as a soldier and having served two stints in Vietnam, two in Germany and one in Belgium, as well as the states of South Carolina, Arizona, California, New York, Texas, Virginia, Kansas and Illinois, he moved his family to West Virginia, where they enjoyed 35 years of living on the same piece of property which they cleared, developed and cherished. Dale retired a second time after spending 18 years as a supervisor in the Public Employees Insurance Agency at the State Capitol complex in Charleston.
Surviving Dale are his wife of 51 years, Lori; sons, Jim (Sandy) of Columbus, Ohio, and Thomas (Kristi) of Cumming, Ga.; grandchildren include Kimberly Curry and Matthew of Columbus, Thomas of Johnson City, Tenn., Ryan, Alyssa and Joshua of Cumming. Also surviving are his sisters, Dora, Joyce and Faye of Kanawha County, Marilyn of Sterling, Va.; brother, Jim of Charles Town. Last, but not least, an "empty-nest baby," Trixi, who had him wrapped around her paw for the last 10 years.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, at Winfield Baptist Church with Pastor David Johns officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.
