James Butler

James Samuel Butler, 77, passed away on January 15, 2016, at CAMC Memorial Division, Charleston.

He was born in Charleston was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School. As a teenager, he worked alongside his father, becoming a partner and sole proprietor of Butler Fence of St. Albans. Sam was avid reader, loved ancient history and wrote short stories.

He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in St. Albans, a devout husband and soul mate to his loving wife, Midge.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold F. Butler; mother, Lucy (Elliott) Butler; sister, Ann Scott; and brother, Harold Butler Jr.

Sam is survived by his wife, Marjorie "Midge" (Crede) Butler of 43 years; daughter, Beverly (David) Milam; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday January 19, 2016, at St. Francis of Assisi on Sixth Avenue, St. Albans with Rev. Father Patrick McDonough officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday January 18, 2016, at the church where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.

Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.
