Maxwell E. Bailes, Sr.

Maxwell "Max" Eugene Bailes, Sr., 78, of Hurricane, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Jan. 8, 2016 at CAMC Teays Valley Hospital, after a two-year long battle with dementia.

Max was born in Graydon on April 5, 1937 to the late Clovis Jenkins Bailes and Etha Pauline Kincaid Bailes. He graduated from Fayetteville High School as part of the class of 1957. After serving our country in the United States Army, Max went on to work at FMC Ordnance and then retired from John Amos Power Plant after 29 years of service.

Max was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed camping and fishing with his family at Cranberry River Campground, Cowen. He also loved vacationing at Myrtle Beach, and his hobby was quilting.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, James Gary Bailes.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Ann Doniphan Smith Bailes; children, Maxwell "Eugene" Bailes, Jr. (Brenda) and Margaret Ann Bailes Parsons (Rodney); grandchildren, Robert Alan Bauer, Johnathan David Parsons, Maxwell "Max" Eugene Bailes, III, Jessica Nicole Parsons and Amanda Dawn Bailes; and great-grandchildren, Grant Avery Williams, Natalie Grace Bauer, Mackinsey Sue Parsons, Dallas Cameron Parsons, Braxton Michael Bailes, Haylee Jo Bauer, Wesley David Alexander Parsons, Bradley Scott Bailes and Brantley Allen Bailes. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Joe Bailes (Eunice); sister, Etha Gertrude "Trudy" Bailes Sexton (Steve); dearest Uncle Eugene and Aunt Gayle Bailes; his best furry pal, Chipper; and a long list of dear family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Reverend Peggy Larck and the Reverend Keith Hudson officiating. Visitation with family will begin two hours prior to the service on Wednesday at noon. Friends are welcome at 1 p.m. Burial will immediately follow the service at Valley View Memorial Park, Main Street, Hurricane.

A special thank you from the family goes to St. Mary's Hospital, the Arbors at Gallipolis, Genesis Putnam Center and CAMC Teays Valley Hospital.
