Leo Friend Gibbs, 88, of New Haven, passed away Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015 at home following an extended illness.
He was born April 16, 1927 in Hartford, a son of the late Arthur Elijah and Hazel (Lewis) Gibbs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Arthur "Buddy" Gibbs and Carl J. Gibbs; and sisters, Maxine Dolly Turnball and Ethel Louise Gibbs.
He was retired from the maintenance department of Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood with 30 years of service. He was an Army veteran and was a member of American Legion Post No. 140, New Haven, and United Steel Workers Union Local No. 5668.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Ila Wilma (Layne) Gibbs; daughters, Debbie Menchini (Mickey) of Lima, Ohio, and Sandra Morris (Archie) of Charleston; sons, Tom Gibbs (Sheila) of Ripley and Larry Gibbs (Dottie) of Lesage; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In honoring his wishes, there will be a private family graveside service in Graham Cemetery, New Haven.
