Betty Jane Butler

Betty Jane Butler, 92, of South Charleston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015.

Betty was born Feb. 4, 1923 in Kanawha County to the late Harvey and Naomi Martin. She was a graduate of DuPont High School.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Champe O. Butler.

She is survived by two sons, Terry C. Tinsley and Champe O. Butler, II and his wife, Tianna; stepdaughters, Sandra Thomas and her husband, Bob, and Sherry Updike and her husband, Fred; four grandchildren, Sherilynn Updike, Jeffrey Thomas, Shane Tinsley and Rachel Myatezh, whom she raised, and her husband, Alex; and two great-grandchildren, Zackery and Riley. Survivors also include a brother, Charles Martin and his wife, Cricket, and a sister, Gail Dawson and her husband, Bill.

She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Spring Hill Baptist Church for over 60 years.

The family deeply appreciated all those friends and caregivers who have been so faithful and loving over the years.

A service to honor the life of Betty will be held at noon Friday, Dec. 4, at Spring Hill Baptist Church, South Charleston, with Pastor Dean Chambers officiating. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Family and friends may visit from 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday, Dec. 4, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House West, Thomas Memorial Hospital, c/o Hospice Care of West Virginia, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W., Charleston, WV 25387-2536, or Spring Hill Baptist Church Mission Fund, 4707 Ohio St., South Charleston, WV 25309.
