Herbert Miller

Herbert R. Miller, of Charleston, went home to the Lord on Fri. Nov. 13, 2015.

Herb was born on February 1, 1921. to the late Andrew Ray Miller and Lula Evans Miller of Wikel, West Virginia.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the 64th Topographical Engineers at Schofield Barracks on Oahu, Hawaii.

He was honorably discharged in October of 1945 with the rank of Sergeant. Following his service in the Army, he was employed by Appalachian Power Company in Beckley, West Virginia, later transferring to the engineering department in Charleston as Design Draftsman. He was retired from Appalachian Power in 1983.

He was a well-known local artist who exhibited at Tamarack, FestiVall and other galleries, fairs and festivals throughout West Virginia and surrounding states.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Julian Rudolph Miller and Ophir Miller; and a sister, Madalene Delorenzo.

Herb is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dolores; and daughter, Sherri Miller of Charleston; nephews, Jimmy Miller of Palm Beach, Fla., Dorrell Miller (Susan) of Whaleyville, Del., Terry Lee Miller (Debbie) of Selbyville, Del.; two nieces; and one nephew of Baltimore, Md.; first cousins, Randolph Miller (Edna) of Union, Linda Weikel of Pickaway, Barbara Morgan and Marvin Miller of Ronceverte, Billy Miller and Ruth Gamble, both of Ogden, Utah; second cousins, Debbie Whitney (Wayne) and family of Statesville, N.C., Gregg Miller (Jo) and family of Statesville, N.C., Wayne Miller of Paducah, Ky., Viola Zimmerman and family of Ocean City, Md., Joyce Gebhart (Jerry) and family of Severna Park, Md., Connie Miller of Finksberg, Md., Patricia (David) Crosier of Knightsdale, N.C. and Dennis (Nancy) Miller of Gap Mills.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staffs of Charleston General Hospital and Charleston Area Medical Center for their excellent care.

Funeral service will be 6 p.m. Tues. Nov. 17, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be later in Wikel, W.Va.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made in Herb's honor, to your favorite charity. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.barlowbonsall.com. Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston has been entrusted with the arrangements.
