Richard A. Andre' departed this life on Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, cradled in the loving arms of his wife, Cynthia, to be reunited with his beloved parents, Bernard "B.E." and Alene, along with his brother, Johnnie.

He is survived by his son, Douglas (Jane); stepson, Morgan (Traci) Smith; step-granddaughters, Kara, Makenna, Kori and Kinley; sisters-in-law, Janet (Sam) Paul, Donna (Ronnie) Miller and Paula Johnson; along with his nieces and nephews.

Richard's work in the preservation of history has answered the age-old question, "Why was I born?" He retired from the mortgage business in 1976 and has devoted his time to the study of the past. He was especially interested in the preservation of vintage photographs.

A lifelong resident of Charleston, his love for the Capital City has inspired numerous newspaper and magazine articles. His books include: Kanawha County Images Volumes I and II, Roar Lions Roar, Charleston High School: A Pictorial History, Capitals of West Virginia, Bullets and Steel: The Fight for the Greater Kanawha Valley, 1861-1865, along with Sternwheelers on the Great Kanawha.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. Richard A. Andre' will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at Bartlett Burdette Cox Funeral Home, Charleston with H.R. Whittington as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice House, 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, WV, 25311, or Union Mission, 700 S. Park Road, Charleston, WV 25304.
