Lawrence Aquino

Lawrence Aquino, 88, of Smithers, passed away Nov. 2, 2015, at Montgomery General Hospital Extended Care Unit, with his loving and devoted wife and daughter at his side, after a long illness.

Born Sept. 11, 1927, he was a lifelong resident of Smithers. He was a loving son, brother, husband, daddy, uncle and friend. He attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he had served as an usher for over 50 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3232.

Lawrence retired from the Smithers Community TV Cable Company, where he worked as a service technician. He served as the Smithers fire chief for 16 years. He was an Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Maria Sandor Aquino; brothers, Sam and Tony; sister, Josephine (JoAnn) Vaught; uncle, Frank Sandor; and aunts, Nellie and Rosie Sandor and Angeline Ross.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Naomi Ruth (Skaggs) Aquino, and daughter, Catherine "Cathy" Aquino of Smithers. Also surviving Lawrence are his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws, Ruby Eagle, Lee Vaught and George and Janis Skaggs; aunt, Genny Sandor; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and caregivers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Montgomery, with Father Mark Gallipeau as Celebrant. Entombment will immediately follow at Montgomery Memorial Park, London.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, where a Christian Wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, P.O. Box 65, Montgomery WV 25136, or Montgomery General Hospital Extended Care Unit Activities Dept., P.O. Box 270, Montgomery WV 25136.

The family wishes to express appreciation and thanks to the staff of the Montgomery General Hospital Extended Care Unit for their care, love and friendship over the past year. Also, thanks to Dr. Bhirud and Kelly and other hospital staff for their care. Special thanks to Father Mark, Deacon John Divita and Rev. Jeff Floyd for their many visits.
