Dinsmore & Shohl, a Cincinnati-based law firm with offices in Charleston and elsewhere in West Virginia, has merged with a California law firm, extending Dinsmore's reach across the country.

The merger with Leventhal Law, based in San Diego, was announced earlier this week. Leventhal Law was founded in 2012 by Joseph Leventhal, a former deputy assistant to former Vice President Dick Cheney. Leventhal Law represented "Fortune 250 corporations, emerging companies and high-profile individuals," according to a news release announcing the merger.

"Establishing a West Coast presence is essential to support our clients' current business needs. We focused on California given the wealth of innovation in the state and discovered we have a lot of synergies with Leventhal Law," George H. Vincent, Dinsmore's managing partner and chairman, said in the news release.

Dinsmore, founded in 1908 in Cincinnati, now has more than 600 lawyers in nine states and Washington, D.C. The firm first expanded to West Virginia when it opened in Charleston office in 2002, followed by offices in Morgantown and Wheeling in 2007 and Lewisburg in 2011, according to the company's website.

In February of this year, Dinsmore merged with Huddleston & Bolen, which was one of West Virginia's oldest law firms and had offices in Huntington, Charleston, and Louisville and Ashland in Kentucky.
