BOWDEN, W.Va. (AP) - A bridge in Randolph County has been named in honor of a soldier who was killed during the Vietnam War.
The U.S. Army PFC Samuel Reed Summerfield Memorial Bridge carries County Route 5/12 over Shavers Fork of the Cheat River near Bowden.
Reed was helicopter crew chief with the 68th American Helicopter Company. The Harman native was killed in 1968 when his helicopter was shot down in Bing Duong Province. He was 19 years old.
WDTV-TV reports that several dozen people, including family members, attended the bridge's dedication on Saturday.
