Former Charleston resident Robert Edward Douglas Jr., 54, of Charlotte, N.C., passed away peacefully at Carolina Medical Center Main, Charlotte, on Oct. 12, 2015.
Robert ("Rob") was born Aug. 21, 1961 in Charleston. He grew up in Charleston and was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Charleston. Rob was a graduate of George Washington High School. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in business from Davis and Elkins College in 1984. Upon graduating, he moved to Charlotte, N.C., where he worked for USAir and resided until 2015. Rob's life was made rich through his devotion to family and friends, his love of gardening and the joy of travel. He was passionate about the well-being of animals, and many received his loving care over the years. He developed meaningful associations through this strong commitment. Rob's greatest gift was his sensitivity to the needs of others. He will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for this precious aspect of his character.
Rob was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Power Douglas; uncle, Guy C. Douglas Jr.; aunt, Martha Douglas Milam (Dr. D. Franklin Milam); cousin, Robert O. Douglas; uncle, Dr. Curtis G. Power II; cousin, William Power; and aunt, Patricia Power Dickey.
He is survived by his father, Robert E. Douglas; stepmother, Nancy McNary Douglas; sister, Ann Douglas Keesler (James) of Charlotte, and their sons, James Jr. and Douglas of Charlotte; aunt, Dorothy Douglas of Bellbrook, Ohio; cousin, Dr. Douglas Milam (Dr. Carol Milam) of Nashville, Tenn., daughter, Laurel, and son, Rush; cousin, Richard Lee Douglas (Vicki) of Leeland, N.C., son, David, and daughter, Dr. Julia Triggs; cousin, Linda Douglas of Welch, daughter, Jennifer Douglas of Beckley; cousin, Suzanne Margolis (Louis) of Yardley, Pa., daughters, Miriam, Sarah, Emily and Rachel; cousin, David Douglas (Susie) of Washington Township, Ohio, son, Brice, and daughter, Breanna; cousin, Guy C. The family will receive friends between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston.
Service for Rob is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, in the Sanctuary of The First Presbyterian Church of Charleston, and will be followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.
