Grover C. Darby, Sr., 87, of Big Chimney, went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Sept. 27, 2015. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Penny L. Darby McGuire; parents, Spence and Myrtle Darby; and all of his six siblings.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Donna J. Darby; his three children and their spouses, Kimberly K. Taylor (Todd) of Big Chimney, Grover C. Darby, Jr. (Cindy) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Janet S. Jones (Kirby) of Elkview; seven grandsons, Lewis Taylor, Logan Taylor, Robbie McGuire, Nathaniel Darby, Dustin Darby, Derek Jones and Kirby Lee Jones; and two great-grandchildren, Hannah Higginbotham and Hunter McGuire.

Grover was a Christian and was a Media Church Member at Family Worship Center (Jimmy Swaggart Ministries), headquartered in Baton Rouge, La. He proudly served our nation in the United States military (U.S. Army) during the Korean War (1951-1953) and retired from the Valley Bell Dairy in Charleston after 44 years of service. He was a motorcycle enthusiast who always enjoyed riding with all his motorcycle buddies. He also enjoyed being able to travel to many different churches with his grandson's ministry, The Taylor Brothers, to hear them preach and sing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to his caregivers: Kimberly K. Taylor (daughter), Lewis and Logan Taylor (grandsons), Hospice Nurse Jill Vigliotti, Hubbard Hospice House and their friendly staff.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at Hafer Funeral Home with Evangelist Lewis A. Taylor officiating. Family and friends may visit and pay their respects two hours prior to the funeral service (noon to 2 p.m.), also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney. Online condolences may be made at www.haferfuneralhome.net.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hubbard Hospice House, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W., Charleston, WV 25387.
