Jewell E. "Pete" Honaker Crews, 86, of Nitro, passed away September 4, 2015, at home after an extended illness related to multiple myeloma. Born in Charleston, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Katie Bowles Honaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil R. Crews, Jr.; two sisters, Jinnie Hartley, Aggie Raynes, and brothers-in-law, Jim Hartley and Jim Raynes.
She is survived by her two special daughters, Jo (Jim) Hackett of Red House, Cathy (Butch) Miller of Nitro; brother, Arnold (Brenda) Honaker of Titusville, Fla.; step-daughters, Linda (Jimmy) Carter of Rowlett, Texas, Mikell (Chuck) Hagedorn of Hopedale, Mass., Julie (Mitch) Wheeler of Roanoke, Va.; stepsons, Dr. Steven (Rita)Crews of Sorrento, Fla. and Jeff (Crissy) Crews of Durham, N.C.; grandchildren, Tammi (David) Faulkner, Traci (Rob) Crook, Jammi (Eric) Hackett Filbert, Eric (Deena) Miller, Casey (Donetta) Miller, Kati (Steven) Harmon; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren.
She attended Grace Baptist Temple in St. Albans, formerly attending the Nitro Church of God, where she had served as Sunday School Superintendent and member and treasurer of the Nitro WCG. A 1945 graduate of Poca High School, she attended Capital City Commercial College and retired as office manager at Prudential Insurance Co. after 42 years of service. Our sweet and loving Mother, appropriately named "Jewell", will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wed. Sept. 9, at Cooke Funeral Home, 2002 20th St., Nitro with Pastor Brian Dean officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tues. Sept. 8, at the funeral home.
