Dorothy Stover

Dorothy Cochran Stover, 81, of Poca, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.

She was born on Sept. 25, 1933, in Putnam County, the daughter of the late Chester and Verna Lett Cochran. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Wayne Stover.

Before becoming a homemaker, she worked at Newberry's Dime Store for a short time. She did volunteer work including holding the office of President of the Tyler Mountain Welfare Association. She was a staunch Republican and worked multiple elections over the years. She worked tirelessly to get public water supplied to Poca River Road. She was a Christian and an active member in her church. She loved gardening, cooking, and country music.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Charles "Smokey" Stover; four children, Sheila Stover-Davis (Scott) of Poca, Gary Stover of St. Albans, Sherrie Stover (Greg Gorrell) of Charleston, and Sonjia Currey of Poca; nine grandchildren, Sonjia Richardson (Steve), Lesa Dejong (Steve), Timothy and Stephen Harper, Leah Dodd, Brandon, Nathan, and Chancey Gorrell, and Tessa Gorrell Raynes; fifteen great-grandchildren; special nieces, Marti Sharp and Valerie Brewer; and special nephews, Frank and Eric Sharp.

The family wants to extend a special "thank you" to Dorothy's caregivers, Kathy Fields (her angel), Aria Trador, Rene'e Hughes, Peggy Davis, Kim Cyrus, and Melissa King. A special thanks to Pastor Lou Coffman and the people who supplied the family with an abundance of food and support.

Service will be held 11 a.m. Wed. Sept. 9, at Cross Lanes First Church of the Nazarene, 5222 Big Tyler Road, Cross Lanes, with Pastor Lou Coffman officiating. Interment will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wed.
