CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Capital, Bridgeport and Magnolia retained their No. 1 rankings in the Gazette-Mail High School Football Poll this week, with each team taking all 10 first-place votes in their respective classes.
It was the first time in the 2015 season that the top-ranked teams in Class AAA, Class AA and Class A each swept the top votes.
In an eye-opening development, South Charleston held on to the No. 2 spot in Class AAA after it lost 26-21 to Capital last week. The Black Eagles earned 81 total points in balloting of statewide sportswriters, while No. 3 Cabell Midland (2-0) finished with 78.
Bridgeport (1-0) held on to the top spot in Class AA although its game against Class AAA No. 4 Wheeling Park was cancelled due to lightning.
