Blood donations
The American Red Cross urges eligible donors to end summer on a positive and potentially lifesaving note with a blood or platelet donation this Labor Day holiday. Blood donors with all types, especially O negative, B negative and A negative, are urged to give. Platelet donors and those with type AB blood are also continually needed. Those who come to donate from through Monday will receive a limited-edition Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last. Trail Club Hike
Kanawha Trail Club will sponsor a hike at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Kanawha State Forest's Trace Fork section of Mary Ingles Trail. Meet to carpool from the parking lot at the corner of Ohio and Randolph streets, across from the post office. The trail is 3 to 4 miles and is mostly easy with some moderate hills.
Tour de Lake
The city of Spencer will sponsor the Tour de Lake mountain bike race starting at noon Sunday at Charles Fork Lake, a few miles outside of Spencer on W.Va. 36. "The Story of Anne Frank" play
Kanawha County Public Library system will host six performances by Bright Star Touring Theatre of the play, "The Story of Anne Frank." The program is best for grades 4 through adult. The schedule includes: Tuesday, 9:30 a.m., Cross Lanes Elementary. This showing is open to the public, although you must sign in at the school office; Tuesday, 1 p.m., St. Albans Library; Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., Riverside Library; Wednesday, 6 p.m., Main Library; Thursday, 3 p.m., Dunbar Library; and Thursday, 6:30 p.m., Sissonville Library. Learn to draw
Unity of Kanawha Valley will feature a "Learn To Draw" class taught by former George Washington High School art teacher, Sharon Mullins, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 22 and 29 at 804 Myrtle Road. Meet in the activite room, off the parking lot. Bring a drawing tablet 9x12 or larger. Also bring artist's drawing pencils and a kneaded eraser, available at art supply stores.
