Margaret Elenora Winters Gunderson England, 84, of Elkview, was gathered into God's arms on June 26, 2015.
Margaret was born Sept. 25, 1930 in Castle Rock, Wash., to the late Ann Rosin Winters and Martin Winters. She was preceded in death by her loving husbands, John Martin Gunderson and Orville Lee England, and also her sister, Anna Winters Henke.
She leaves behind her daughter, Joan (Jeff) Lyon of Maryland; son, Mark (Roni) Gunderson of Charleston; five grandchildren; her brother, Robert (Carolyn) Winters of Tacoma, Wash.; her dearest friend, Joanne Rose of Castle Rock, Wash.; special daughter, Diane (Rick) Barker of Pennsylvania; niece, Linda Raines of Pinch; and many other relatives and friends across the United States.
Margaret grew up in the Christian faith, attending St. Paul Lutheran Church of Castle Rock in her youth, later becoming a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Charleston and Mount Tabor Methodist Church in Pinch.
A 1945 graduate of Pacific Lutheran University, Margaret went on to earn her Masters Teaching Certificate at Western Washington University. Her education career included teaching kindergarten in Olympia, Wash., College Park and Rockville, Md., and first grade at Quick Elementary School in Quick, W.Va.
An avid horsewoman, Margaret was a charter member of the Elk River Boots and Saddles Club and the West Virginia Arabian Horse Association. Her greatest joy was raising, training and caring for a barn full of Arabian horses and their foals.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church, Pinch, with Pastor Danny Kinder officiating. A private burial service will be officiated by Pastor Randy Richardson of Trinity Lutheran.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Equine Angel Program for at risk youth at the Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, P.O. Box 5007, Minot, ND 58702-5007.
